XO Security Case Study

Overview

I designed a secure coding exit exam for engineers completing the XpressO Security bootcamp. The assessment was built in Evolve and used as a final checkpoint to confirm understanding before learners completed the programme.

Audience

Software engineers participating in the XpressO Security Bootcamp.

Challenge

Engineers needed to demonstrate a strong understanding of key security concepts, with a required pass mark of 90%. The assessment needed to validate knowledge without creating unnecessary friction or turning the exam into a blocker

Solution

I created an interactive exit exam with a 90% pass mark. To support mastery, learners who did not pass were permitted to reattempt only the questions they answered incorrectly.

This approach was intentional: getting an answer wrong can be a valuable part of the learning process. Rather than forcing learners to repeat the full assessment, the design focused their attention on the specific concepts they needed to revisit and helped them get over the line confidently.

Outcome

Supported a mastery-based approach to developer assessment, helped engineers focus on areas requiring improvement, and reduced unnecessary friction while maintaining a high standard for completion.

Key Skills Demonstrated

Developer enablement, assessment design, secure coding training, technical learning design, Evolve authoring, learning experience design.
